How to take the photo at home

Distance. Front camera 40–50 cm from your face, or someone takes it from 1–2 m with the rear camera. No selfie-stick wide angle.
Posture. Face the camera directly, shoulders level, both eyes open, neutral expression, mouth closed.
Light. Daylight near a window. No shadows on the face or behind you. No glasses, no hats, no headphones.

Where does my photo go?›

Nowhere. Everything is processed directly in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded to a server. You can turn off your internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.

Will my photo be accepted?›

The photo is sized, cropped and checked against official requirements from public sources. Final acceptance is always decided by the receiving authority — we are not a government agency and cannot guarantee acceptance.

What background do I need?›

Any reasonably even wall works. We separate you from the background and replace it with the plain color your document requires (white for US, light gray for Schengen).

Can I smile or wear glasses?›

Keep a neutral expression, mouth closed, both eyes open. Glasses are not allowed for US documents. No hats or headphones.

How do I print the photo?›

Download the free 4×6 print sheet (six 2×2 photos) and print at 100% scale, 300 DPI, with auto-color corrections disabled. Or show the file at any pharmacy photo counter — printing usually costs cents.

What are the DV Lottery photo rules?›

JPEG, exactly 600×600 pixels, square, at most 240 KB, head between 50% and 69% of the image height, plain white or off-white background. Our DV mode produces exactly that file.

Do you store my photos?›

No. Photos are processed in your browser and never leave your device. We only count anonymous events (page visits, downloads) to understand the funnel — no images, no cookies.

Can I take a baby passport photo with this?›

Yes. Lay the baby on a plain white or off-white sheet, eyes open, no other person in the frame, no toys. The same rules apply: head 50–69% of the height.

Digital or paper application?›

Both. Download the single JPEG for online forms (DV lottery, DS-160, online renewals) or the 4×6 print sheet for paper submissions.

Why is it free when others charge $6–17?›

Another photo costs us almost nothing, so we keep the core free. That is the whole point.
